How to decide which weight loss programs are right for you

There are many different weight loss programs for consumer to choose from these days.  Whether you are wanting one where you go into an office and meet face to face with a consultant or whether you prefer the convenience of going online for all of your guides and plans, the choices are rather limitless.

Comparing weight loss programs can be confusing. How do you know which ones are the most effective and which ones will work the best for you?  Well, I’m going to review some of the most common weight loss plans, and talk about some that are less well known, so that you can make the best decision for you. 

Weight Watchers is by far the most popular of the weight loss programs among Americans who pay for a service.  This program offers the convenience of an online membership, but you also have the option of joining meetings with live people for support.  Once you are a member, you have the option of going on their website to find great recipes, learn about the benefits of exercise, and are given tons of support in making a complete lifestyle change.  You can usually find some sort of special running to try the program out for free for awhile. 

Jenny Craig is becoming more popular, mostly due to the celebrities that advertise on TV and online for the program.  This is another program that you must pay for.  Specifically, you pay for the food you eat. You can choose the food you want online and the meals are shipped directly to you.  However, this one is considered to be affordable by many of the members.  In fact, the average member claims they only spend about $1 per day more than before they started the program.  Not bad!  With your membership, you will also be able to work with a personal consultant who will create a diet and exercise plan to suit your lifestyle and fitness goals.  Again, the key to any successful weight loss program is learning how to change your lifestyle, so you can keep the weight off and keep your body in shape after you go off of the “diet.”  With the Jenny Craig program, you meet with your consultant once a week to receive encouragement, additional advice, and to alter your plans when necessary.  There are different membership levels and you can usually find a special when you join. 

Finally, you can choose to do it the old fashioned way.  You can gather all of the information, for free, on the Internet or at a library about what types of foods are best to avoid and which will help you in your efforts to lose weight.  You can also learn about the benefits of exercising and how to begin a workout program.  There are countless recipes to be found that are designed for people trying to lose weight, so you don’t need to pay for any if you do not want to.  However, losing weight through this method is only successful for those who are extremely well disciplined.  Since you will not be meeting with anyone in person, there is no one to hold yourself accountable, but you.  You will need to be fully committed, and many first time dieters simply do need the strict guidelines set out by other weight loss programs.  If you find you do need more strict guidelines, but don’t want to pay for a service, check out SparkPeople.  They give personalized diet and exercise plans for free, and you can receive support from other members of the community.
